I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I truly believe in order for your Mary Kay business to be successful you need to feel like a winner. It’s just that simple. If you only feel like a failure you are not going to want to be in business for long (and that applies to any business, not just Mary Kay). We don’t want to do things that make us feel bad, but we beat ourselves up all the time. Today is the day to set yourself up for a win.
Your big goal may be to grow your Mary Kay business and earn a free car or become a Mary Kay Sales director. Often, we are very hard on ourselves because we have not “made it” yet. Here is what I have learned from my friend and mentor Sean Smith, the “Pink Caddy Coach”, a man that has helped countless women in Mary Kay and has spoken for many NSD’s. He says (and I agree) to take your big goal and break it up into things you can win at daily. This will provide little “wins”. Wins equal motivation, and motivation is the fuel of success. So, lets say your goal is to book three skin care classes today. The first thing you do is get on the phone and start calling, you are pumped and ready to rock. This motivation quickly fizzles out like a power-outage. The problem here is that there is only so much you can control about the situation. You can control the input, but not the outcome. These are words to live by! Lets take a look at some examples:
What you can control
What you can not control
Maybe in the two to three hours that you set aside to make those three bookings, you get one or two or maybe on this day you don’t get any bookings. This can be very disappointing, and to be honest downright heart breaking at times because you want to achieve your goal so badly. So what I learned to do is set my goals as something I have control over because if I can control the input, then I can always win at it, and the little wins help move me in the right direction!
Let’s look at this from a practical standpoint. In stead of saying “I will book 2 skin care classes today”, you could say “I will make 10 phone calls today to try to book skin care classes”. You do not have control over the first, but you do have control over the second. You could book zero classes, or you could book 10. The important thing to know is that you are in control, and that you did what needed to be done. Also, think about the next day. Instead of going into it with the mindset “I didn’t book my 2 skin care classes yesterday”, you can say “I made my 10 phone calls, and I can do that again today”.
It may sound corny to you, but to me it was a life changer. The minute I learned to make all my goals something I could achieve I felt like a winner. Do I still have big goals? I sure I do. I want to help as many women as I can, I want to change the world with my goals, I want to do a lot of things, but If I try to do it all today, I’m setting myself up for failure. My goals are coming true right in front of my eyes, because I’m doing the work, and I’m doing the work because it feels great to win.
